TCP 118
Synopsis
- TCP port 118 is assigned to sqlserv (SQL Services) and was historically used by Sybase SQL Server/Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) for its SQL Monitor/“SQL Services” functionality.
- Many UNIX/Linux /etc/services files still list sqlserv on 118/tcp, and some legacy Sybase/SAP ASE deployments expose this port for monitoring-related services.
- Modern databases rarely use it; typical Sybase/SAP ASE listener ports are custom or defined in sql.ini/interfaces, so 118 is mostly a legacy/compatibility artifact today.
- It is not widely associated with specific exploitation campaigns beyond the general risks of exposing outdated services.
