UDP 33457
Synopsis
- UDP port 33457 is commonly targeted by UDP-based traceroute implementations.
- On Linux, BSD, and macOS, the traceroute command sends probes to destination UDP ports starting at 33434 and incrementing; during a run it often reaches 33457.
- Network devices such as Cisco IOS and Juniper Junos use the same UDP traceroute behavior, so their built-in traceroute also sends to ports like 33457.
- Measurement tools such as CAIDA’s scamper and Paris-Traceroute perform UDP traceroutes that hit high ports in the 33434+ range, including 33457.
- RIPE Atlas probes routinely generate UDP traceroute traffic to ports in this range during Internet path measurements.
