Internet TCP port 37 is primarily used for the Time Protocol. This protocol is designed to provide a site-independent, machine readable date and time. The Time Protocol can be utilized over either TCP or UDP. However, it is rarely used today as more accurate and robust time synchronization protocols, such as NTP (Network Time Protocol), are available.
