Microsoft Windows (Vista/Server 2008 and later) uses TCP 49154 within its RPC dynamic port range; Windows services like WMI/DCOM and the Service Control Manager commonly listen on this port as msrpc.
Microsoft server products running on Windows (e.g., Active Directory Domain Services and Exchange Server) often expose RPC endpoints on 49154 unless administrators pin them to static ports.
Many consumer routers’ UPnP/DLNA implementations serve their HTTP/SOAP control interface on high ports 49152–49154; this has been observed on D-Link DIR-series devices where the UPnP control URLs are reachable on 49154/TCP.
Microsoft SQL Server named instances can select a dynamic TCP port in this range, so an instance may listen on 49154 when not configured with a fixed port.
Security note: attackers frequently abuse Windows RPC over these dynamic ports for lateral movement, and several historical UPnP router flaws have been exploited via the UPnP HTTP service when it was exposed on 49152–49154.
