Synopsis

  • UDP port 523 is registered for IBM Db2 (service name: ibm-db2).
  • IBM Db2’s Discovery Service (process db2gds) uses UDP/523 to broadcast and discover Db2 servers on a LAN; this was common in Db2 UDB/Db2 v8–v10 on Windows, Linux, and AIX.
  • The Db2 Administration Server (DAS) components in older Db2 releases also listened on 523 (UDP and TCP) for discovery/management traffic; examples include Windows service DB2DAS00 and the db2gds binary on Unix-like systems.
  • Real deployments where you’ll see UDP/523 include IBM Db2-backed products such as IBM Tivoli/Maximo or custom enterprise apps that enable Db2 discovery in on-prem networks.
  • Security note: Port 523 (for Db2 DAS/Discovery) has been targeted historically, with multiple remote code execution vulnerabilities reported in older Db2 versions, so attackers sometimes scan 523/udp (and 523/tcp) to identify and exploit Db2 services.
