Internet TCP port 554 is primarily used by the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) for controlling audio or video streaming media servers. Software examples that utilize this port include QuickTime Streaming Server from Apple and RealNetworks Server. Additionally, IP surveillance cameras and related security systems often use this port for streaming video. Microsoft's Windows Media Services also previously used this port, but it has been deprecated since Windows Server 2012.
TCP port 554 is associated with the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), which is used to control streaming media servers. In the past, hackers have exploited this port to gain unauthorized access to streaming content or to disrupt streaming services. For instance, they could send malicious packets to this port to cause a buffer overflow, leading to a denial of service (DoS) attack. Additionally, if the server software has vulnerabilities, hackers could potentially execute arbitrary code on the server. In some cases, hackers have also used port 554 to propagate worms or other malware across networks.
