Synopsis

  • Microsoft Windows Deployment Services (WDS) Transport Server uses UDP 7784 for multicast client discovery/announcement when performing multicast OS deployments.
  • In real deployments on Windows Server (e.g., 2008–2022), WDS listens on UDP 7784 while multicast image data flows on the WDS multicast range (commonly UDP 64001–65000).
  • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr/SCCM) uses the WDS Transport Server for multicast-enabled Distribution Points, so OSD task sequences leveraging multicast rely on UDP 7784 between clients and the DP.
