UDP 7784
Synopsis
- Microsoft Windows Deployment Services (WDS) Transport Server uses UDP 7784 for multicast client discovery/announcement when performing multicast OS deployments.
- In real deployments on Windows Server (e.g., 2008–2022), WDS listens on UDP 7784 while multicast image data flows on the WDS multicast range (commonly UDP 64001–65000).
- Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr/SCCM) uses the WDS Transport Server for multicast-enabled Distribution Points, so OSD task sequences leveraging multicast rely on UDP 7784 between clients and the DP.
- Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), when configured to use multicast via WDS, also requires UDP 7784 open for clients to discover and join multicast sessions.
- No notable hacking/exploitation association is commonly documented specifically for UDP 7784.
