TCP 8686
Synopsis
- GlassFish (Oracle/Eclipse GlassFish Server) uses TCP 8686 as the default JMX/RMI management port (for example: service:jmx:rmi:///jndi/rmi://host:8686/jmxrmi) for administration and monitoring.
- Payara Server (a GlassFish fork) also defaults to TCP 8686 for its JMX connector for remote management.
- Products or solutions deployed on top of GlassFish/Payara (e.g., older OpenESB or Java EE apps using the default domain) commonly inherit this JMX port on 8686.
- Security note: Exposed JMX on 8686 has been abused in the wild—attackers scan for open GlassFish/Payara JMX endpoints and, when misconfigured or using default credentials, can invoke MBeans to deploy applications or achieve remote code execution.
