TCP 81
Synopsis
- Blue Iris (Windows CCTV/NVR software) runs its built-in web server on TCP port 81 by default for the HTTP interface.
- Many embedded devices that use the GoAhead Web Server expose their admin panel on TCP 81; this is commonly seen on low-cost H.264/Xiongmai (XMeye) DVRs and some OEM IP cameras.
- IANA assigns TCP/81 to the HOSTS2 Name Server (hosts2-ns), an obsolete service rarely encountered in modern networks.
- Security note: IoT botnets such as Mirai and Mozi scan and attempt to brute-force/default-login HTTP interfaces on TCP 81 (along with 80/8080) because many embedded devices place their web admin there.
